SC Description

As part of one of the larger community college systems in the country, Shasta College has numerous academic opportunities. Among them is a program that allows Shasta students to earn a bachelor’s and even a master’s degree.

Associate’s degrees are awarded in such fields as Business, Agriculture, Social Sciences, and Liberal and Fine Arts. Healthcare degrees are granted in such fields as Nursing, Vocational Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Home Health professions.

Shasta also has a highly innovative program that allows students to attend Shasta while earning an advanced degree through Chico State University. This partnership program with Chico State allows students to pursue bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, Liberal Studies and Sociology, among others. Master’s degrees are also awarded through the Chico State program in such fields as Nursing and Social Work.

Students who wish to earn their bachelor’s degree elsewhere or in a subject not offered at Shasta may also transfer to universities and colleges throughout the state and beyond, which many do.

Enrichment opportunities also abound at Shasta. In addition to recreational activities such as hiking afforded by Shasta’s natural surroundings, there are on-campus student activities. Performing arts opportunities and numerous student clubs and organizations are some examples.

Student services include tutoring, disability support, career and personal counseling and health and wellness services. Since Shasta also participates in programs with numerous state and other organizations such as CalWorks, students from certain populations may also receive additional assistance, both financial and otherwise, when embarking on their education.

Admission is open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED and tuition is significantly lower for California residents. Students may also apply for federal grants, loans and scholarships.

I love Shasta College they will help you in anyway they can. I just wish we had more tutors in the Math Lab to help with homework. They do the best they can and the tutors they do have will help you in anyway they can, there's just not enough of them.

Shasta College has been a blessing for me. When I began to consider going back to college, I was fraught with many insecurities; was I too old, was I financially able to attend, and could I manage going to school while working close to full time? Thankfully, after researching the school online, I was confident that I could go to school again. The online resources were fantastic, and the information was easy to find. The professors were amazing, and I couldn’t imagine having a better education at any other school. The resources on campus were more than adequate, and my time spend in a physical classroom was quite pleasant. I really enjoyed my time at this school. My only complaint about the school would be the advisors who provide students with information regarding transferring to a university. Thankfully, I am a student who is very proactive about ensuring that my actions will lead to the proper pathway. I made sure that I took the right classes, had the right grades and was on the right trajectory for my intended field. I cannot say the same about the varying counselors who advised me. On several occasions, the advisor would tell me the incorrect information. I can recall two counts where I was given the wrong information about transferable credits; as such, I had to enroll for another semester in order to fulfill a degree at Shasta. It seems that they understand their own limitations, as one counselor actually shrugged their shoulders and said it would be a better ‘bet’ to just talk to a counselor at a university.
