Missouri Valley College is a private, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The 150-acre campus is in Marshall, Missouri. Just ten miles north of Interstate 70. Missouri Valley College was founded in 1889 and now features 27 academic majors and an enrollment of 1,425 students. Missouri Valley College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Missouri Valley College is an opportunity college that provides educational, social and cultural experiences in a decidedly Christian environment. The College's liberal arts heritage focuses on scholarship, critical thinking and academic excellence to prepare the students to become members of a responsible citizenry. Missouri Valley College believes that a broad understanding of its intellectual and cultural heritage is essential for effective participation in contemporary life. Therefore, MVC seeks to ensure that all students have the opportunity to gain this understanding in order to provide a context for the knowledge they will gain as they specialize in a particular field of study. To gain this understanding students will be introduced to the major fields of human endeavor. They will be instructed in effective written and oral communication along with logical, critical and creative thinking. Through their majors, students will have the opportunity to gain the depth of knowledge and special skills to prepare them for a career or for further study.
Missouri Valley College was founded in 1889. So far as history is concerned, it is difficult to fix on definite data, and yet it may be said that the history of Missouri Valley College began with a conference of the representatives of the several Presbyterian synods in the state of Missouri, which was held at Sarcoxie, MO, October 27, 1874.
The academic program of Missouri Valley College has been formulated to promote the development of the student within the mission and goals of the College. Educational policy is intended to ensure the academic growth of the student within a framework of social, physical, and spiritual growth. Students should obtain a copy of the College Catalog and become familiar with the academic policies and procedures. Missouri Valley College offers bachelor's degrees in 27 different subjects.
