West Coast Ultrasound Institute’s mission is to provide our students with a solid educational foundation in their field of study.
We are dedicated to giving students a well-balanced curriculum, divided between classroom, laboratory and supervised clinical training, taught in a supportive educational environment, by a highly qualified staff of professionals.
It is our responsibility to produce superior graduates who have the knowledge and confidence to succeed personally and professionally by achieving their highest potential.
West Coast Ultrasound Institute is the preferred source of education in the community in each of our specified fields of study.
West Coast Ultrasound Institute believes that the rewards of education are valuable and enduring.
WCUI has one purpose:
To allow each student to reap the rewards of education and achieve his or her potential in the fast growing healthcare field.
The motto of West Coast Ultrasound Institute is “Knowledge Builds Careers”.
West Coast Ultrasound Institute has designed specialized programs for all qualified students to enhance their knowledge and develop their skills. Students successfully completing the program offered at WCUI can rely on a good foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge as they enter the medical field.
Dr. Neville Smith, M.D., a Board Certified Radiologist opened West Coast Ultrasound Institute in 1998 with Myra Chason, BS, BSN, RDMS, a well known instructor of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Dr. Smith recognized the importance of a school that specialized in Radiological Imaging, especially various types of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound. In 1999 West Coast Ultrasound purchased and merged with SAT, a school that had computerized courses. This purchase was to help accommodate students with the lack of computer skills in medicine. West Coast Ultrasound Institute now has access to Radiological Computer Technology as well as the various courses in imaging modalities.
West Coast Ultrasound Institute is unique in that along with the school, it also operates a low cost Ultrasound Clinic onsite for patients that do not have insurance and can only afford a minimal examination fee. This clinic has over twenty-five referring medical agencies and primary care physicians.
The learning experience at West Coast Ultrasound Institute includes both the didactic instruction as well as actual hands on clinical experience using the latest ultrasound imaging equipment. All students are given a clinical externship at a hospital or imaging center. We have over 50 local hospital and imaging facilities available to the students that attend the school.
In November 2001, West Coast Ultrasound Institute was approved by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). Later in April of 2002, WCUI was approved by the Department of Education to offer Financial Aid. This year, we have been approved to accept International Students.
West Coast Ultrasound Institute is dedicated to developing and expanding the medical career of all our students. We are continuously adding new programs to benefit the technological needs in the medical community. Soon we will offer both CNA and LVN nursing programs as well. We are proud of the courses we provide in Diagnostic Medical Sonography that enable our graduates to pass the American Radiological Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), board examination. Our outstanding Advisory Board keeps the Institute current in the new imaging trends in the medical field.
