Wesley College is a private, coeducational liberal arts college located in Dover, the capital of Delaware.

History

Wesley College was founded in 1873 as a preparatory school called Wilmington Conference Academy. It became a 2-year college in 1918 and was thus renamed the Wesley Collegiate Institute. The College conferred its first 4-year degrees in 1978. Its first Master's degree programs were added in the 1990s. Named for John Wesley, the founder of the Protestant Christian faith of Methodism, Wesley College maintains a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church.

Today, Wesley College offers 30 bachelor degree programs and four associate degree programs, along with master's degrees in nursing, education, business administration and environmental science.

Academics

Although Wesley College has offered master's degree programs since the 1990s, the majority of the student body still consists of undergraduates. Many of those pursue a liberal arts program of study. Majors offered in the liberal arts include American studies, English, history, international studies, liberal studies, mathematics, media arts, music, political science,and psychology.

Location

Wesley College and its athletic facilities are located on a campus in Dover, Delaware. Dover is the state capital. Delaware was the nation's first state. The city has roughly 36,000 residents and was founded in 1683 by William Penn. The campus of Wesley College is situated in Dover's historic district, which is a residential community with stores and banks in easy walking distance. Dover is home to many historic sites, the Delaware State Library, the Delaware State Museum, and the Delaware State Archives, which are located close to campus and are open to the public. Dover is also home to the Schwartz Center for the Arts and the Sewell C. Biggs Museum of American Art.

Its one of the 7 sisters, which includes Barnard (which is the counter school to Columbia, an Ivy League). Its one of the top schools for women and one of the top schools period in the country. It was the school in that movie 'Mona Lisa Smile'.
