COCC is the oldest two-year college in Oregon and provides a comprehensive variety of college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, professional technical program degrees and certificates, developmental courses, community education classes, industry-specific training programs and business management assistance.

The college’s main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. Situated on the western slope of Awbrey Butte, the location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 193-acre campus. A satellite campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers a variety of courses and services and is the home of the new Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU and other collaborating Oregon colleges and universities offer about 110 upper-division courses. Cascades Hall, a 38,000-square-foot building, houses most operations of Oregon State University-Cascades Campus.

COCC is a mid-sized school. With just over 7,000 credit students taking classes each year, the numbers may seem daunting. But guess what? They’re not! With an average of just 24 students per class, students get some of the best instruction around.

Question: Bend, Oregon; Central Oregon Community College?

I am having a hard time getting into a 4-year university because I messed around my first two years of high school. So my cumulative GPA isn't awesome. I am thinking about going to a communtiy college first then transferring later to a university. I live closer to the Portland Community College campuses in Oregon, but I want a change. I have been to Bend once before for a snowboarding trip. I found it to be really pretty and it looked like there was a lot to do. So, now I am thinking about Central Oregon Community College. Can someone from Bend, or someone who has gone to school at COCC tell me about the town and school? Is it worth it? Is it really expensive to live in Bend? Etc......

I can't say much about the college as I do not attend COCC, nor have I spent any time there. As for Bend, it's a wonderful place. I am 19 and live here with my 24 year old boyfriend. For our ages, we ALWAYS have something fun to do in the area. There's kayaking, mountain biking (the Cascades are literally 30 minutes away), white water rafting, shopping (GAP, Old Navy, Banana Republic, REI, American Eagle, etc), movies, tons of great restaurants both local and chain, hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, fitness centers, rock climbing, ice caves, and the nightlife is awesome and lively. There are so many scenic areas, as well. So if you're outdoorsy or love to try new things, you will certainly find SO much to do here. As for cost of living....it's pretty high. It's a resort/tourist town. Also, for the 2008 year, Bend was named the most overvalued housing market in the entire United States, if that's any indication.
