Penn State Greater Allegheny is a “Big Ten” internationally renowned university, offering baccalaureate and associate degrees and certificate programs taught by Penn State faculty at a campus in Allegheny County (near Pittsburgh). Students attending Penn State Greater Allegheny enjoy the benefits and resources of a major research university in an intimate setting. Its diverse student body of almost 1,000 students has access to on and off-campus housing, a friendly environment, free tutoring, free parking, public transportation, shopping and recreation, and active involvement in a wide-range of academic, cultural and athletic activities.

Students can complete bachelor's degree or associate degree programs at Penn State Greater Allegheny, in addition to the first two years of study for nearly all of Penn State’s more than 160 bachelor's degrees, or pursue a credit or noncredit certificate.

Various summer programs such as Penn State credit courses, pre-college programs, and youth camps are offered at Penn State Greater Allegheny. High school students can get an edge on college credits as well as technology preparation.

Penn State Greater Allegheny is a Commonwealth campus of the Pennsylvania State University in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Penn State McKeesport, the Penn State Board of Trustees initially voted to rename the campus Penn State Allegheny during its September 2006 meeting. The board subsequently approved the current name in January 2007.
