MMA Description

Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the second-oldest maritime academy in the country, provides rigorus, hands-on training for students wishing to enter the maritime, engineering, emergency management and environmental fields.

Located in Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Maritime offers six bachelor’s degrees in designations which include Emergency Management, Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation. Two master’s degrees are available in Emergency Management and Facilities Management. Massachusetts Maritime also has professional and continuing education options.

In addition to classroom learning, students engage in a “sea term.” Conducted in the months of January and February, this term gives cadets the opportunity to put their learning to use as they sail to ports in the Carribean sea. The voyage lasts about 52 days, during which time cadets engage in at-sea training, ship operations duties such as deck and engine watches, and maintenance duties.

Graduates of the program go into engineering, military, environmental, sea-faring, scientific, educational and governmental careers, to name a few.

The career services department at Massachusetts Maritime helps students to transition into these and other work situations, assisting with career planning and job placement.

Financial aid officers work closely with students to figure out student loan plans and provide help in applying for other forms of aid.
