The Muncie campus of Ivy Tech Community College (primary campus located on Cowan Road ) is part of Ivy Tech's East Central Region which includes campuses in Anderson and Marion , plus outreach sites in New Castle , Portland , Winchester , Hartford City , Pendleton and Elwood. The region offers 38 associates degrees and technical certificates in more than 80 specialties in six schools: Business, Health Sciences, Public & Social Services, Education, Technology and Liberal Arts & Sciences. The East Central Region has experienced a 23 percent increase in enrollment in the past five years and currently serves more than 7,000 students each semester. Currently, enrollment for the region for the fall 2009 semester is up nearly 50 percent. In July, officials announced that the Ivy Tech School of Culinary Arts leased a part of the Patterson Building in downtown Muncie , about three blocks southeast of the new Ivy Tech Fisher Campus, to house this growing part of the community college, which includes more than 150 students.

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana (usually shortened to Ivy Tech or Ivy Tech Community College) is Indiana's only community college system, encompassing 23 campuses in 14 regions. "Ivy Tech is one of the largest statewide community college systems in the country and the largest institution of higher education in Indiana." Ivy Tech's enrollment numbers recently surpassed Indiana University's. The community college system now has more than 120,000 students. Ivy Tech is Indiana's most affordable college for in-state residents.

History

Ivy Tech was founded in 1963 as Indiana Vocational Technical College, to provide technical and vocational education for various industries and was rechartered as a system of vocational technical schools in 2005. The name "Ivy Tech" derives from an initialism (I.V. Tech) of the original name for the school, Indiana Vocational Technical College. Ivy Tech's name was officially changed to Ivy Tech State College in 1995. In 1999, Ivy Tech entered into a partnership with Vincennes University to form the Community College of Indiana. The partnership ended and Ivy Tech was rechartered in 2005 to be known as a system of community colleges named Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. Ivy Tech has many affiliations with various colleges around the state, both two and four year colleges, but Ivy Tech is no longer associated with Vincennes University.

Ivy Tech is a full-service community college, offering nearly 200 academic programs for Career Development Certificates, Technical Certificates, and Associate Degrees in:

School of Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology- "Programs lead to careers on the cutting edge of science or agriculture production."- Areas of study include: Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Chemical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Kinesiology, and Pre-Engineering. Ivy Tech Community College will soon offer a new Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology at its Lafayette, Columbus and Indianapolis campuses.

Question: Is going to IVY Tech Community College a waste of time?

Community college is not a waste of time...the stuff you learn there is the same stuff you learn in your first two years...Just be sure to look at the requirements of the major at the college you want to go to so you'll have all the courses you need to succeed....I went straight to a four year college but a friend of mine is at a comm college and he's doing the same stuff...Just make sure you get the best grades possible and take the classes that will set you up for success in your 4yr college...Talk to advisers at both the comm college and the 4 year school....Comm college is a cheaper way to get a good education so if money is tight than it's not a waste of time....

When I had applied to Ivy Tech (Indiana) SAT's weren't required for when I was in high school, But, I did have to take an entrance exam to be placed in the courses that would help me get in the right courses for me. The best thing I could tell you is call the business at the local school and ask them.
