Biochemistry Scholarships

A specialized field that has many applications, biochemistry allows students to take a variety of career paths after graduation. A Biochemistry major might find themself working in hospital labs, for biotech firms or pharmaceutical companies, or in a research lab for a public or private organization.

Types of Biochemistry Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available to help undergrads get their bachelor's degree, including scholarships that are school-specific and those that are available nationally.

Since biochemistry is such a research-heavy field, you may also find a number of research grants and graduate fellowships.

Popular Scholarships for Biochemistry Majors

Many of the non-school-specific scholarships available will be offered to students in scientific fields in general, as not many are tailored specifically for biochemistry majors.

However, there are some institutional scholarships that specifically target students majoring in biochemistry. Examples include the MacCorkle Scholarship at Hamline University and the Chemistry and Biochemistry Scholarship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Applying for Biochemistry Scholarships

A high minimum GPA is often required for eligibility for biochemistry scholarships, especially since the field is so academically challenging. For some scholarship contests, like the Dupont Challenge/Science Essay Award, students may need to submit an essay with their application.
