Clemson University Scholarships

In addition to its strong reputation as one of South Carolina’s top public colleges, Clemson University is also known for its especially happy, active students. Athletics are a big part of college life at Clemson, and when students aren’t playing intramural sports, they’re cheering on the Tigers at a football or basketball game.

There’s no doubt that Clemson is a great place to study. In order to afford tuition, though, you’ll probably need to find some financial aid. Fortunately, Clemson funds many institutional scholarships to help you pay your way.

Popular Clemson University Scholarships

Clemson University divides its scholarships into four categories: academic, restricted, diversity and special programs.

Academic scholarships are often based exclusively on your high school GPA and standardized test scores. However, some Clemson academic scholarships have additional criteria. For example, the Carl E. Poole Jr. Endowed Scholarship is reserved for graduates of Bishop England High School.

Restricted scholarships are awards designated for particular departments or major areas. Though academic achievement is typically the main criterion for these awards, other factors may be considered. Selection for the Lillian Alden Brooks Endowed Nursing Scholarship is based on financial need.

Special programs and diversity scholarships are much broader in scope and may be based on a variety of criteria. These scholarships support students with unique backgrounds or interests. An example is the Joe B. Douthit Memorial Soil and Water Conservation Scholarship.

Applying for Clemson University Scholarships

Most Clemson scholarships do not require a separate application. When you apply to the university, you’ll be considered for most scholarships. However, for maximum consideration, make sure that you apply and file your FAFSA early.
