Georgia Southern University offers not only academic scholarships, but also leadership scholarships, which require students to have a 3.0 GPA, 1100 SAT score and to demonstrate their leadership qualities in both their high school and community. Each major has its own set of scholarship standards, so those who are academically, artistically or athletically inclined can benefit from their passion.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is one example of a major-specific scholarship as it is intended for freshmen entering the Engineering program. The SAE scholarship does not require a separate application and, on average, awards three students with $8,000.

The school also offers unique awards such as the Troy Scholarship, which is aimed at students that reside within 50 miles of Wheeling Jesuit U and demonstrate financial need. Additionally, they have many scholarships that are awarded to those who attended specific high schools or lived in certain counties.

Georgia Southern University also supports those who support others, as evident through the Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program (SSEAP), which aids spouses of soldiers; Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant (LEPD), which supports children whose parent(s) were law enforcement; and HERO Scholarship Program (Helping Educate Reservists and their Offspring), for those reservists, or children and spouses of reservists, who served in combat zones.

Applying for Georgia Southern University Scholarships

While many Georgia Southern scholarships do require a separate application, there are many that do not, which means that you are automatically considered for certain awards when you apply to the university. Nevertheless, many scholarships, fellowships and grants require a separate application, so it is worth the extra effort of filing your FAFSA and applying for any awards for which you qualify.
