Maryland Scholarships

Bisected by the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, Maryland is peppered with charming towns like Ellicott City and Frederick. Metropolitan life is readily available, as well, including Washington, D.C., and the historically and culturally rich city of Baltimore.

Its best-known school is likely the prestigious Johns Hopkins University. However, Maryland features a number of educational opportunities, and a number of scholarships to help you take advantage of them.

Popular Maryland Scholarships

Due in part to its proximity to the nation’s capital, Maryland is known for its many military bases. Because of this, the state features many scholarships specific to the military.

Among these is the Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship, which is open to Maryland residents attending the University of Maryland – Baltimore County.

Maryland’s Office of Student Financial Assistance also features a variety of opportunities, including the HOPE Scholarship, which ranges from $1,000 to $3,000.

Applying for Maryland Scholarships

When applying for financial aid in Maryland, don’t discount the school you’re attending. Many Maryland colleges and universities fund their own scholarships.

For example, the University of Maryland University College offers the Maryland Community College Scholarship, which awards $1,650 to part-time students and $3,300 to full-time students.

Some institution-specific scholarships also have particular criteria. Disabled studies can apply for Towson University’s Presidential Scholars with Disabilities Scholarship, which is renewable for up to five years if you maintain a 2.5 GPA.
