Reviews for Oberlin College
Small classes with engaging professors. The down side of Oberlin is that you're in the middle of Ohio. 45 minutes to Cleveland is as close as you get to city life. Winter can be a bit brutal. The campus is small and you can quickly get to know people and find your way around. A great alternative to more prominent schools with an equal or better education. Can be culture shock if you're coming from a big city.
Tremendous academically. Rare for a class to have more 30 people. Classes are traditionally based on discussion, not a professor lecturing. Most of the classes are left leaning. Oberlin has a unique program where students can teach classes in areas of expertise as well. This makes for fun classes based on a variety of topics, like Rave Culture, Beer Brewing, etc., all of which count towards (limited) college credit.
Not much to do on weekends except hope on of the off campus houses has a party. There is a movie theater in town and Oberlin shows movies almost nightly as well. You're not going to go out to a nice dinner, go clubbing, etc. You'll find limited choices and need to make the most of it on your own.
Great small liberal arts college offering real opportunities for deep study of issues that interest you along with a diverse and accepting student body. The campus is beautiful, the facilities top-notch, and the absence of a greek system makes it more inclusive.
You can tailor your schedule for how hard you want to work. Depends what you're looking for out of college life. I spent the first 2 years intensively studying a broad array of subjects, and then greatly reduced my workload the final two years, but zeroed in on the subjects I found most interesting.
Incredible student body. Bright, accepting, quirky, and fun. A truly heterogeneous population. Great experience for those who haven't had exposure to a lot of what the world has to offer. Campus life has a slower pace. Surprising number of activities to amuse you.
I really like Oberlin. The campus is very diverse, cultured, and full of interesting people. The people you meet at Oberlin are some of the kikndest down to earth people I know, and I am truely glad to have met them. The professors are wonderful and always to ready to help.I love how beautiful the campus is, and I would highly recommend Oberlin to anyone.
The class sizes can vary, but the class sizes are never overwhelming. Some of the classes can be small, as little as ten students, but some of the introductory classes can have as many as seventy. The professors are extremely helpful and always ready to answer questions
There are numerous things to do at Oberlin. There are many athletic events to go to like football, basketball, and baseball games. There are tons of clubs to be involved in, and there are always activities going on as well
