Overall

Although, admittedly, Tennessee State University was not particularly attractive to me at the onset of my matriculation, I have grown to love my HBCU...endearingly. Despite the relatively large amount of extremely unfocused students, I sincerely believe TSU has the potential to provide as good an education as almost any 4-year public university. As with any college, however, it depends greatly on one's effort. What initially captivated me was the university's great sense of pride. In addition, it is quite rare to see professors take such great stock in the success of their students...I see it everyday at TSU. Overall, I am pleased with my decision to attend Tennessee State University.

Academics

From the biased standpoint of a biology major, I will admit that the coursework can often be dense (especially during midterms and finals weeks). However, it is never too much to handle. In relation to my experience as a student, the class sizes are average, excluding a few 100+ student lectures. The professors, for the most part, are very knowledgable and cooperative; as with any college, though, there is your fair share of pompous "know-it-alls". The difficulty of classes greatly depends on the student's aptitude and major.

College Life

If there is one thing that Tennessee State University excels at, it's college life. Having been placed in a large and diverse city, TSU is somewhat of a hub of entertainment; there is always something to do at TSU. However, the atmosphere can take some getting used to depending on where the student is from. There is a club/organization for almost everything at TSU, despite what many believe. The student just has to make the effort to find the club/organization. As far as safety is concerned, I take the stance that as long as the students isn't "up to no good", there's a relatively low chance of him/her being endangered. The sports are always extremely entertaining and the game-day atmosphere for most sports is unparalleled.

This has been a great experience for me. This is my first time away from home and attending orientation made me and my mother feel more comfortable because of the resources that were provided for any of your needs while you are on this campus. The food was great. And I am looking forward to being a student at Tennessee State University. I just wish that there was more finanica aid out there to help my mom because she is a single parent. But overall I am happy that I chose to come to this college.

Academics

Since this is my first year all I can honestly say is that I am pleased with my schedule and my advisor explained what would be best for my individual goal. Even though I was ready to start in some of my dance classes my advisor told me to get all of my math/english ect out of the way first. I am so excited about starting my future.

College Life

I have'nt been on campus for a week yet, but I have met so many people from so many different places and I am ready to broden my horizen. I am ready to go out into the world and see what life has to offer and my start is being here at TSU. Campus security seems to be fully staffed and control the activty around here it made me feel safe.

Overall

Tennessee State University is a Historically Black College and University. There is a vast amount of history and pride there. They have one of the leading engineering schools in the country. Overall it's a great school and I basically grew up there. Go take a tour see for yourself.

Academics

The engineering program is top notch. Be prepared to eat sleep and live at the engineering house. The class size is moderate and great tutoring is available. the staff is helpful but it is college and all the responsibility falls on you as the student .

College Life

There is a vast amount of culture and tradition here. From the parades to homecoming, to the Greek life. The campus is alive and well and always has something going on. I especially enjoyed Greek week and the step shows! If going greek is not your thing, there are plenty of other activities going on.

Overall

I enjoyed the opportunity to be around students from all over. TSU is an HBCU and when its football season there is nothing like the atmosphere on campus and at the games. Nashville is a great city and a college town as well and its the south so the hospitality is as expected. TSU campus is not as big as Vanderbilt or Belmont but the fun on campus or the attention you get from the teachers are worth the tuition.

Academics

The class sizes varied. Lecture hall classes were naturally larger than the normal class room. I spent most of my time in Holland hall which was the business building. The workload depended on the major, and I was a business major so there was a decent amount. The teachers were always approachable and willing to help, you always have your tough ones but over all I found it fair.

College Life

Student life included Mr. and Mrs. TSU pageants, concerts, comedy shows etc.. Anyone who's ever attended TSU knows that on WEDNESDAY'S at 12:00 in the STUDENT CENTER is THEE PLACE TO BE! All of the greek students and student government groups music made for a great experience. Naturally I met a lot of people while at TSU, several of which are here in Los Angeles. My first place to stay in LA was secured because of people I met while at TSU. In fact I still visit Nashville a couple of times per year. The football games were awesome! The basketball teams were not as good as the football teams were but when they played FISK or MTSU the games were always the talk of discussion the next day and the atmosphere was everything you heard about before hand.

Overall

I have not yet attended, but have enrolled for classes for this Fall. I will be attending the off campus location at the Avon Williams campus location downtown, which is very convenient since I work only a few blocks away. However, I have heard many great things and looking forward to my attendance this fall.

Academics

I will be in the BBA program for Supply Chain Management. Since I won't be attending until this fall, I can't comment other than to say from reading over the course descriptions and syllabi, it seems to be a very well thought out curriculum that will provide me the knowledge necessary to advance my career.

College Life

Again, I can't comment on these things yet since I won't be attending until the fall. However, I have only heard positive things in helping decide to attend TSU vs another school.
