Love the school, very beautiful area full of rolling hills, awesome people, you should definitely apply.

Academics

Most of the professors are really passionate about their subject which makes it very interesting to listen to them lecture. Class size is mostly about 28 with some lecture halls reaching about 200. Advisors are easy to talk to and locate. Hard to get an A as most grades are based off of tests and papers with very limited homework to help boost up the grade.

College Life

Downton SLO is awesome, we get a huge farmer's market going every Thursday night on the streets of downtown with lots of music, bounce houses, food, and people. We go really big on soccer and there are over 200 clubs so finding one that interests you will be no problem. Overall great atmosphere

Overall

I loved my college experience! San Luis Obispo is a small town, but it was a great place to live for 4+ years. The only tough part about Cal Poly is that its so impacted, a lot of students don't graduate in 4 years because they can't get the classes needed to complete their degrees. Oftentimes classes are offered only one quarter a year, and if you can't get in, you have to wait until the next year to take it. But other than that, it was a beautiful, fun place to go to college, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 4 year university. Great balance of academic life and social life.

Academics

I was an English major, which was a strange pick for a polytechnic school, but the department was small, so my classes were very small and I got a lot of personal attention. It was difficult declaring my major before I was accepted, and had I been given the chance to take a year or two of per-requisites before needing to declare a major, I may have chosen business just because of the job opportunities that major allowed for post-grad. But I enjoyed the subject and the classes very much, and I have a great job in advertising, so it all worked out.

College Life

Great, fun, wonderful! Lots of on campus activities, WOW (week of welcome) stands out as a great memory from my freshman year. I then joined a sorority which became a central part of my life and experience at Cal Poly. I thought the Greek system offered support as well as great learning opportunities that translated into after-college opportunities. I made great friends that I'm still very close with to this day. Its a relatively large Greek system, but it didn't feel like you had to be a part of the Greek system to have fun or be social. There are still a lot of other opportunities on campus for social activities, groups, etc.

Overall

Cal Poly provides great college experience. San Luis Obispo is a beautiful part of California and serves as the perfect college town. There is a great balance between school work, extracurricular opportunities and social life at Cal Poly. I had a great time from 1996-2000. I made life-long friends and have more memories I love to look back on then I can count. I highly recommend Cal Poly to anyone considering it.

Academics

Class size varies, most are pretty small, but there are a few larger lecture type classes. Professors are very hands on and tend to be available when you need them. The workload was manageable for myself and my friends I went to school with. We really like the mix of academics and other activities that Cal Poly had to offer.

College Life

Cal Poly has a great social atmosphere. The campus is really nice and easy to get around. The town has a ton to offer for students who live off campus or are looking for things to do in San Luis Obispo. I highly recommend Cal Poly to those who like the outdoors. The town is close to the ocean and has great hiking in close proximity to campus.

Overall

What stood out most to me about Cal Poly is how amazing the professors were. They gave us individualized attention, made classes fun, and truly cared about our progress. The school as a whole is a fantastic place to be - academics were amazing, I felt extremely safe, and the overall experience truly prepared me for adult life after graduation.

Academics

The general ed classes tended to be rather large, so not much individualized attention was received, but once we were in our major classes there was always a strong sense of community. The professors truly cared about us and provided the best learning experience possible.

College Life

The school has amazing clubs for a variety of people, strong organizations that give a great sense of community, as well as a very active Greek life. The school truly offers something for everyone. The leaders within each program have such enthusiasm and passion for Cal Poly, it really enhanced the school spirit!

Overall

San Luis Obispo is an amazing college town with the most friednly people. Students at Cal Poly are very helpful and considerate and they have a great value for education. It's very easy to fall in love with the city and the college. Cal Poly has an absolutely wonderful new rec center and is an environmentally friendly campus. Their "learn by doing" policy sets it apart from all the other public schools in California.

Academics

The teacher to student ratio is very small and you feel like you're receiving a private school education for a public school price. The professors care about all the students and students are not taught by teacher assistants. Their hand on approach to everything learns the student develop skills faster and learn more.

College Life

The whole campus is really safe and the campus patrol is always at work. Bike Nights and Farmers market in downtown SLO are to-die-for. Students have tons to do during the weekends-They can go surfing, line dancing, hiking, and much more. The local eateries, the beach, downtown SLO, and the mountains provide mush more than a student could ask for.

Overall

Well I have never actually been to the school before I have just been looking into it, but it looks like a great school and as of right now I plan on attending.

Academics

Since I'm not actually at the school I can't describe any classes or programs.

College Life

The school itself seems like a great place. It's close to the beach and is a very beautiful campus.
