Overall

I really do love my school! It is a historical black college, so expect some of the facilities to be also historical. It's a beautiful campus with most buildings made of bricks! Going from California to Alabama was a culture shock within itself. I can say that I truly adapted well. Tuskegee is a rural place, so you can really imagine the differences coming from a city going to a rural town. It is a great experience that we love to call the 'Tuskegee Experience'. People on the outside looking in may not understand it, but those of us who went through all four years understand the struggle and how it taught us to overcome adversity and taught us so much humility! Oh how I love my Mother Tuskegee! My home away from home. I would advise prospective students to attend with a very open mind, make the most of your experience, and find a lesson in everything. It was, and is a truly wonderful experience!

Academics

I was a Biology major, so I can't speak too much for any other programs that weren't within the life/chemical sciences loop. We had pretty good programs. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioinformatics. I honestly can't say all of our professors were the sharpest knives in the drawer. Haha! But I can say they did their best under the conditions and the materials they ahd to work with. Class sizes weren't like huge. We are a private university consisting of roughly 3,000 students a year. You got to know pretty much anybody you wanted to know. We were a unit, a family, and I think that is one of the things that makes Tuskegee so great! The workload wasn't horrible at all. It was manageable if you manage your time well.

College Life

The social atmosphere, clubs, organizations, athletics, and weekend activities were awesome. We're like such a big family that you could count on having a good time and the organizations and clubs to be in tune with each other when it came to collaborating and hosting events on campus. You could always look forward to the events on campus. They were awesome. Athletics were awesome too. Everyone would come out and support especially during the football games. Football season was life for us! It was super enjoyable and not your typical football game at the Tuskegee home field. There was music, dancing, laughing, chants, cheering on not just our awesome football team, but our Piperettes, Cheerleaders, and OH how we love the band! It was awesome!
