Overall

I love UMASS! I think it one of the best choices I've made in life. The location is great! The faculty is the best! My best memories surround commuting in for classes. Riding in by train, disembarking at my final stop, walking through campus ... The memory makes me really miss those days! I recall how happy I felt when I arrived at school each day. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it! All I can say is, "Give UMASS a try!" My tipsfor prospective students.... "It's never too late to learn!" & "Learning never stops, so don't stop learning!"

Academics

My program was in the College of Public and Community Service. The program was the best! We basically took classes that translated into community projects and hands on learning. The professors were passionate and driven. I think we worked hard and were taught well. My classes challenged and empowered me. Classes were small and intimate. The workload was reasonable, but demanding. .

College Life

I attended as a military veteran in the Upward Bound Program. There was a department that was devoted to veterans returning to school. We were given assistance through every phase of our attendance. Prior to attending mainstream classes, we took classes with other veterans. The classes and opportunity to be among fellow veterans helped prepare us to be successful in our academic programs. I looked forward to each and every day of classes. I had so much support within the Veterans Center. Campus life was always welcoming. The diversity of the student body made it a great place to learn. I loved the feeling of being among family, all striving towards a common goal. I was an older student, already married with a young daughter. I brought my daughter to school to expose her to college life as an encouragement for her future endeavors. I joined the basketball team and really enjoyed it. I commuted into the city for classes. I lived over an hour away and that limited some of my opportunities to participate in activities. There were still many campus community events available throughout the week. There was always something engaging to do and interesting people making things happen.
