About UPSEM

Union Theological Seminary is a reformed Protestant institution that offers a progressive approach to graduate-level Christian studies. Union Theological is located in New York City so that graduates might integrate Christianity into an urban environment. Union Theological’s academics are also rigorous and include dual degrees with an Ivy League University.

Union Theological awards a doctorate in Divinity and master’s degrees in:

  • Divinity and Social Work
  • Sacred Theology

Students may also pursue a dual master’s with Union Theological and the prestigious Columbia University.

All of Union Theological’s programs examine Christianity in conjunction with other faiths and religions. They are also progressive in that they embrace new ideas and approaches to Christian faith.

Admissions to Union Theological Seminary are competitive. Applicants should have substantial preparation in the humanities, liberal arts and sciences. An application, transcripts and three letters of recommendation are required.

Applicants to the Sacred Theology program should have a master’s in Divinity. Those applying to the master’s of Divinity program should have a master’s in Theology. They will also need to submit GRE scores and an academic writing sample.
