Overall

The Tidewater Community College campus in Virginia Beach is outstanding. The counselors help you to the best of their ability. They have many opportunities to advance in your studies. The facility is well equipped with a library and many study areas around campus for students between and after classes to study. The campus is patrolled heavily with security to ensure students well being.

Academics

The programs are well planned and arranged to develop the proper skills needed for your advancement in studies. The professors are caring and want to see you be successful in your studies. They will do anything within their power to help you. The workload is reasonable and well balanced for the courses you are taking. The class size is not over crowded and comfortable.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is filled with excitement of learning. The facilities are kept clean. Computer labs are accessible no long waits for a computer. Each department is well organized. The is ample parking so you do not have to drive for ever looking for a space. The campus is heavily patrolled by security and they have emergency panic pole throughout the campus. There is designated smoking areas around the campus.

Overall

I've been at the school for a while, unsure how long. I've had a good time at this college though, I don't know if it is just this college as I've never been to any others. The college has a wide diversity of people from many backgrounds, all of which are helpful. It's a big ideal community.

Academics

My classes are only two at the moment, but I decided to give myself a break. The professors want to see you succeed and will set aside tome to meet with you and talk. I've learned more about my writing in a semester than I have in all my years of writing. Class size range from small 4-10 person classes to somewhat enormous 20-30 person.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is nice for a the building and our campus is expanding. Some of the buildings feel older but the new ones have a more modern feel to them. The parking is a bit difficult, but everyone does what they can to make it safer and easier. I've never heard of an issue with the safety of any campuses.

Overall

Being here at TCC has been a great experience for me. I am an older, returning student, and the energy in the classrooms has been stimulating, and encouraging. The mix of age /experiences of the student body is fun, I get to hear how my daughter's generation thinks and feels about their lives and world issues. My only concern is that more of the textbooks are becoming proprietary/ TCC campus specific, which limits secondary market access to the textbooks for people trying to keep the cost lower.

Academics

I wish that the Human Services Department had more classes available at more varied locations and times; also that an advisor would be designated, so that we would have someone to speak with, who understands our curriculuum. My professors have been excellent, experienced in their fields of social sciences, human services, counseling, etc. They have all been positive, encouraging, and innovative in the styles and approach to their subject matter. I'm sure everyone feel the work load is heavy, sometimes I feel like my professor in one class or the other, thinks I only take one class, therefore I must have time to do 3 different assignment by next class meeting(LOL)! That's apart of the college scence, and I have had to be creative in time management! Speaking of time management, the SDV 100() Student Success Class should be a Mandatory, first class taken. It should be self-populating in the online registration or inperson! The material is so beneficial, and even if you can't grasp it all, or enact it all immediately, you have the textbook for future reference and resource. I use Veteran's Retraining Assistance Program funds(limited to 12 months only, and well appreciated) to get some of my classes paid for, however I am basically a self paying student, and I must say, I have gotten my money's worth out of all of my classes( we will not talk about ITE 115 right now!).

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campuses are all different, they have their own personality or flow, however they should all have the same amenities, which they do not. I take a lot of my classes on the PORTSMOUTH campus, which I love, however,we needs computers in the study rooms in A building like Virginia Beach and Chesapeake campuses have. The libray at the Portsmouth campus is beautiful, the staff is very helpful, the shelves are full with a wide variety of books and periodicals, and there are many computer stations and reading/study areas for our use. I was there until closing once, and at 10 minutes prior to closing, the lights were shut off in the library as if we were in a bar or club and I took great offense to that! I have been at Chesapeake campus' library until closing many of nights and that has never been done. Please ask them to not do that! It comes off as disrespectful! The Norfolk campus study room that I have used seemed unfinished, with wires were coming out of the wall that could not be attached to anything; there is a computer monitor on the wall however no keyboard, USB jack, or instructions on how to utilize it. The Portsmouth, and Chesapeake campuses do not have food service facilities like Virginia Beach and Norfolk campuses. However, the rollout of the childcare facilities, beginning at the Portsmouth campus is very exciting, and I don't even have young children! I am proud of TCC meeting the needs of the community of it's student body is this way. Child care is a major issue in most communities, and is a hinderance to a lot of people meeting their goals. Many young women leave their children with people(males) they don't really know, in order to pursue work and sometimes it ends tragically. Again, I commend TCC for meeting a need! Overall, This has been a great experience, I love TCC and I would and do reccomend my school to any and everyone!

There are 4 different campuses and you can attention class at any campus. I enjoy this because it adds to the flexibility. The classrooms are easy to find and the staff are always friendly. My most memorable experience was the first day of school. I couldn't find my class, but the information desk helped me and they had maps of the campus.

Academics

The classes are a good size, and there are ceiling projectors in every classroom. This was my first semester but I have to say that all my teachers have been my favorite. They have all helped me in different ways. The work load in Anatomy and physiology has been overwhelming at times but now thatvim st the end of the semester I feel do accomplished! I would have to say that one down fall is the competive process to enter the programs. If I don't get selected I have to wait another year to apply again which is not something I can afford to do.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is peaceful. We have security guards which patrol the campus. They also direct traffic and act as crossing guards at the busier times to ensure students can cross the street and make it to class safely.
