This school is great. I have no words to explain the experience. I like everything about this campus. I had a choice between University of California Santa Cruz and California State University of Long beach. I am so grateful that I chose Long Beach over Santa Cruz. The Long Beach campus is just great. I explore something new everyday. I like this campus so much I am thinking of doing my further studies of Physical Therapist here.

Academics

I am a Health Science major student. So, most of my classes require a group presentation where I get to research a topic so much that the information I get after researching just stays with me. Also, I meet new people in my group. And its interesting to listen to the other people’s presentation because the information gets presented is very useful. For example, once I had a group talked about HPV infected viruses. I never knew anything about this virus until I listened to that presentation. I was so happy that I got to learn some new useful information that can be helpful for me or for my family one day.

College Life

At first when I started here, I was scared to meet people but then I joined Indian Students Association of Long Beach (ISALB). I met so many new and interesting people here that it changed the way I think about life. I have attended many events of ISALB club. But my favorite one was recently that happened which was Holi- Festival of Colors. On that event we threw colors on the other group member and enjoyed it so much.

I think Cal State Long Beach is a great school to attend, the atmosphere here is very inviting. Everything seems to be very accessible for a student and a fun fact some students may like is the fact that students currently attending CSULB have free transportation when using any of the LBT buses which for me, a current freshman is very useful. So is the library here and then mere fact that whenever I need assistance whether homework wise or just a spontaneous question I have different resources on campus to rely on. I as a current student love CSULB and plan to attend here the 4 years, also dorm life here is amazing especially here in International house, because one gets to meet new people, native or foreign and it is a wonderful experience to have.

Academics

The class size here exceeded my expectations because at first I was afraid that they were going to range from 500 students and larger; however, from a freshman's perspective I think that class sizes here are amazing. Programs and clubs, theres is a large variety of clubs on campus and every fall and spring during the "Week of Welcome" all the clubs and greek clubs come out to get sign ups. Workload, well honestly it is college so expect to have work, from my experiences the work given here at CSULB is duo-able. The professors here are very nice, if you have a question you can literally go up to them and ask them after class, or even visit them during office hours; however if you can not attend their office hours they will take time out of their way to meet up with you and help you if you email them and ask politely.

College Life

The atmosphere here as CSULB is very calm and inviting. Many of the students will walk along to their class and will say "Hi" or "Hello" mostly everyone I have met here on campus are very friendly. Clubs are literally almost everywhere, especially during the "Week of Welcome." Campus safety is CSULB's main priority and it offers a number to call an escort if one does not feel safe walking to their car at night. I live on campus at CSULB and it is really safe here during night time we have our night people taking a walk, jog, or just hanging out with a group of friends. It is pretty much safe here. I actually leave home for the weekends so I can not describe how weekend events go on but, there are variety of activities during the weekends like paintball shooting, going to Disneyland, Six Flags, going to AMC and etc.

Overall

The Beach campus overall is very superior! The quad is amazing! Every single student, staff, and professors are very friendly and nice. Science buildings, the library, math department, etc, there is nothing that i can list for least likeliness about csulb. Every single day is a memorable experience to the prospective students. like i mentioned before, everyone on campus is very friendly and therefore, it is very easy to make friends. At first, the campus seems like a maze, but as times pass, the campus leads you into a beautiful, silent, japanes garden. every place on Long Beach campus is very delightful to keep as a memory and to go for college!

Academics

There are lots of students aiming for a higher goal every time they would finish a class. some classes are five units, or even up to six units! the professors, staffs, are very helpful and i would personally give all of the professors and staffs an overall grade of five out of five. the classes in general are never too easy to miss! every class has something to learn so it would not even let you miss a single class. the workload as well is not a heavy carrier like a burden unless you procrastinate until the last moment. most of the classes are based on the homeworks and lectures, and labs or activities. in a classroom, the professor teaches to a maximum of 50-65 students per class in the lecture rooms. since the professors are very helpful, if the students are not understanding the course, they can easily have an one on one conversation with the professor or the staff, and they will help you as much as you need.

College Life

every bit of long beach such as the campus, clubs, organizations, campus safety, athletics, and weekend activities are so tremendously great! the campus is very very safe. there are emergency poles for every 20 steps you make. the police and securities are always on guard for student safety and at night, the campus police walks with the student to their car to make sure they are very safe on campus. clubs are very fun to be in. it helps the students to meet other students who has the same interests as they do. there is also a recreation center, also known as the fitness center. it is very huge. students can work out, play basketball, racquetball, volleyball, swim, check out their bmi, cardio workout, and lots more! in the Long Beach campus, the students never bored out.

Overall

Cal State Long Beach is a great and reputable school for people who are looking for decent education at a reasonable price. Mostly for people who commute, while possibly having a part-time or full-time job. But if you're looking for a more typical "college life" experience for your undergraduate degree, you should look into going somewhere else. However I can't really vet that opinion because I never really had a chance to stay around in school, but the majority of the people who go to CSULB are just like me (commuter, full-time/part-time job, full-time student).

Academics

Generally, most of the professors I've had so far seemed pretty good. They have a lot of knowledge in their field and you will learn, granted you want to. In terms of workload, it seems to me that Cal States don't have nearly as much work as schools in the UCs, which is great if you have a busy life outside of school. A full-time job and going full-time in school here hasn't been that bad for me so far. But I did have some horrible professors from time to time, but I think every school has a few of those.

College Life

Haven't really had a chance to be social here, since I take night classes only for the past two years. My freshman year in the dorms was alright, but the cafeteria really sucks. The food is terrible there. I couldn't justify paying $800 (three years ago, so it's probably more now) for half of a room and food that I wouldn't eat, so I left after a semester. I joined the American Marketing Association also in my freshman year, but it really doesn't apply to students until you reach your junior/senior year. They seemed pretty active while I was in the club, but that's all I really know about extracurricular activities at CSULB. Never cared about greek life, so don't know anything about that.

CSULB is a great fit for my personality and learning style. I enjoyed the dorm life on campus and found that experience to be memorable. I also enjoyed the club I was involved in; it was a great supplement to classroom education and improved my overall college experience.

Academics

The classes I have taken have been a variety; from GE requirements, changing my major, and obtaining a minor I have had the ability to experience various teaching styles as well as workloads from classes and professors. The class size depends on the department you are obtaining a degree in; for many business classes they are impacted, so there are many students in each class. For a concentration, you may have small classes. I feel both classroom settings are beneficial for the overall learning experience.

College Life

Everyone is very friendly and personable at this campus. There are hundreds of clubs and opportunities to get involved and the organizations here are extremely motivated and dedicated. I have never had any problems with campus safety at CSULB. The athletic teams are motivated and hard working, and attending the games has always been enjoyable for me. We are lacking a football team due to budget cuts, so that would be the only improvement I can recommend.

For the graduate level work, I think the professors are really knowledgeable and experienced in their field. The resources at the school are pretty good, considering that it is a Cal State (including the gym, library, research facilities, etc). I would recommend it for the MSW program.

Academics

The professors are experienced and are great at making themselves available for office hours. The class size is about 25 on average, which I prefer rather than large 400 student lecture halls that I had at the UC's for my undergrad. The workload is reasonable and challenging, however that's necessary to excel on a graduate level.

College Life

Student life is diverse and there are many different clubs offered (academic, social, cultural, ethnic, specialized, etc.); athletics is offered, however the school isn't large enough to have Division III. The campus is monitored by campus police and feels safe, even at night around 10pm, which is when I usually end with classes.

I am currently a first year commuter and I believe the education here is amazing. Students have access to just about all the resources needed on and off campus. What I like most about this school is that it is very welcoming.

Academics

The workload here is very reasonable. The professors here are also very understanding, even with a large class size. The professors do their very best to interact with each student. CSULB's main purpose is to establish that student teacher connection and they do a great job at it. Even in lectures, the professors do a great job with intertwining the traditional seminar class style into it. Prospective students just need to make sure to stay on top of everything, show up to class, and they'll be just fine.

College Life

Every semester we have a week of welcome where all the clubs and organizations come out to introduce themselves. This way, students can see what they're interested in. The atmosphere here is always so lively.
