About University of Alaska Anchorage, Kodiak College

Kodiak College is a two-year school that is part of the University of Alaska system. It is also Kodiak Island’s primary source of postsecondary education. Kodiak College also offers special programs for senior citizens and adult learners.

Kodiak College awards professional certifications in such fields as healthcare and technology. The college’s associate’s degrees are awarded through more than five academic divisions. These include:

  • Developmental Education
  • History and Humanities
  • Natural and Health Sciences

After students receive their associate’s degree, they have the option of transferring to the University of Alaska’s bachelor’s degree programs. Students who earn their associate’s in a field like healthcare may begin their career right away.

Kodiak College also offers basic skills courses in ESL and GED preparation and personal enrichment classes.

Applicants must submit an admissions application, along with transcripts. Senior Citizens who wish to earn a degree or certificate may apply through the Lifelong Learners program. Senior citizens who wish to take a single class may simply register. If they register the day the class starts, senior citizens who are at the legal age of retirement will have their tuition waived.

Kodiak College offers federal and institutional financial aid. Financial aid packages usually consist of a combination of grants, loans and scholarships. Some examples of scholarships are an academic scholarship and one for American Indian students.

Great instructors! I was surprised to find such a quality of people in this remote island. I loved the library resource and the online facilities. Every classroom has computers and great accommodations. Sometimes the University will provide free food for the students!!
