LaBaron and Kay Harvey Hairdressing Academy in Overland Park, Kansas, has been in existence for more than 60 years. During that time, they have developed a highly effective curriculum.
Students in the school’s Cosmetology and Manicuring programs learn in a manner that is most appropriate to their learning style. The curriculum is also progressive, which means that each skill set builds on the previous one.
Students spend a substantial part of their time in the classroom fine-tuning their skills, doing demonstrations and practicing on mannequins. In the last part of their program, they put these skills into practice in the school’s salon.
Admissions requirements include a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must provide transcripts or GED scores. Applicants must also be at least 17 years old and provide proof of their birthday.
LaBaron and Kay Harvey offers federal financial aid through Pell grants, SEOG grants, Stafford and Plus loans. The school also participates in outside financial aid programs, including those provided by Kansas State rehabilitation and the Veteran’s Administration.
