Named after an Irish soldier, Montgomery is the capital city of Alabama, and also the second-largest city. Much of the economy is centered around politics, and there is a rich history (some good and some bad, of course) in Montgomery related to the Civil Rights Movement.
The city rests on the Alabama River, which is another important factor in the economy, and also a place where many residents and students find some relaxation after a long week. The weather is nice enough to take a swim most of the year, and even in the dead of winter, the temperatures average in the 50s.

Universities in Montgomery, AL – 4-Year Colleges and Online
Alabama State University is the flagship school in Montgomery, offering a full gamut of degrees, and a traditional southern college experience with major sports, concerts, and opportunities for internships, but Auburn University also has a Montgomery campus with similar offerings.
Faulkner University’s campus is also in Montgomery, but it offers most of its coursework online or in a hybrid setting, meaning relocating to Montgomery might not be necessary for future Faulkner students.
Amrige University, South University, and Huntingdon College also offer 4-year degree programs in Montgomery.
Community Colleges in Montgomery, AL
The primary option for a traditional community college path in Montgomery is H Council Trenholm State Community College, which has roughly 2,000 students enrolled at a given time. Amrige and Huntingdon also have some 2-year programs.

Alabama is a pretty unique state. On the bad side, they often seem to be a bit behind the curve as far as progressive advancements go, and consistently rank near the bottom for public education on a national scale. However, their colleges have esteem, and the state has a lot of fun to be had if you know where to look.
