Greensboro is the third-most populous city in North Carolina and is home to North Carolina A&T and a UNC branch campus, in addition to some private schools.
The city is rich in history and is home to the International Civil Rights Museum and Weatherspoon Art Museum. Sports are also prominent, though no top-tier teams are located here due to their relatively small size. The NBA G-League’s Greensboro Swarm is the farm team for the Charlotte Hornets, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers is one of the affiliate teams of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Several events also take place in the city, including a huge 4th of July festival, the North Carolina Comedy Festival, and a community gathering with music and arts called “First Fridays” that happen once a month downtown.

The University of North Carolina’s Greensboro campus is the 3rd-largest in the system, with an enrollment of ~ 20,000 students. North Carolina A&T adds about 13,000 students to Greensboro’s population, and the areas around both of these campuses have college-town feels with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the nice weather while you study.
Greensboro College, Bennett College, and Guilford College also offer 4-year degrees in Greensboro.

With two large state schools in the city offering certification and 2-year programs, Greensboro does not have a classic community college, though Greensboro College offers affordable paths that allow students to build credit and transfer.

The History Museum and Science Center are both must-dos in Greensboro, but not something you’ll want to do every week as a college student. More regular recreational activities include a slew of live music venues and summer concerts outdoors and a nearly endless supply of hiking trails in the surrounding mountains.
