Over 100 colleges and universities are found in the state of Maryland. The majority of the schools are located in and around the Baltimore-Washington area. The University of Maryland - Baltimore is probably the most well-known public school while the highly selective Johns Hopkins University tops the offering of private institutions. Most of the public colleges in Maryland are affiliated with the University System of Maryland. The state is also home to the third oldest college in the US, St John’s College and two federally funded institutions, The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and United States Naval Academy. Loyola College in Maryland, Maryland Institute College of Art - Baltimore, St Mary's College of Maryland, University of Maryland-Baltimore, and University of Maryland - College Park are all nationally recognized for top college programs.

Many students seeking a bachelors degree or masters degree end up choosing one of the eleven universities that make up the University System of Maryland. Maryland Career Opportunities

If you want to stick around in state after attending one of the Maryland colleges, you’ll most likely end up finding work in Baltimore or one of the other cities or suburbs near Washington, DC. With the nation’s capital nearby politics and law are two popular career fields. But if law school sounds too time consuming for you a Legal Assistant/Paralegal degree from a 2-year college may be more your speed. One of the best fields to study if you want the promise of a successful career in Maryland is Health & Medical Services. Johns Hopkins University is the place to go if medical school is in your future, but many career colleges in the Maryland offer valuable degrees in healthcare, too. A certificate or 2-year degree can qualify you to work in Medical Insurance Coding Specialist/Coder, Medical Insurance/Biller, Healthcare Administration, Medical Assistant Professions and Ultrasound Technician.
