Situated in the Willamette Valley at the mouth of the Marys River, Corvallis is a flat, fertile area surrounded by mountain ranges to the east, west and south. A mid-sized town of 55,000, Corvallis has won awards for being one of the best college towns and places to start a business, as well as boasting one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the country.
The School: Oregon State University
Oregon State is one of two major public universities in the state, the other being the University of Oregon. Originally the curriculum focused exclusively on agriculture, and this remains one of the premier departments at the university.

What to Do
Corvallis is encircled by mountains, forests, and other natural surroundings, so if you’re looking to take a walk or spend some time outside, you have 47 public parks in and around the city to choose from. The third weekend of July is “da Vinci Days,” an art, science and technology festival. Make sure you watch the kinetic sculpture race, in which teams build amphibious all-terrain vehicles that have to be completely human-powered.
As the men’s football team has enjoyed newfound success, Reser Stadium has turned into one of the hotspots for student activity. The fog that typifies the Pacific Northwest often settles over the stadium, making it one of the unique venues in college football.
