New Hampshire Financial Aid

New Hampshire is known by skiers for its powdery white slopes, but many students know it as their home away from home. New Hampshire has over 20 certificate programs, trade schools, community colleges and 4-year colleges and universities and graduate schools. In order to help students pay for tuition, New Hampshire financial aid offers scholarships, grants, and student loans.

New Hampshire Scholarships and Grants

New Hampshire scholarships and grants are an important part of the educational landscape for New Hampshire students. Use the Campus Explorer Scholarship Search to find New Hampshire scholarships that will help you get the education you need.

The New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission offers several state-administered scholarships, grants and other forms of aid to students pursing education in New Hampshire (and some other Northeastern states). Here is a list of available scholarships:

  1. NH Incentive Program: Students who demonstrate financial need and are attending a bachelors degree program at an eligible New England postsecondary institution may apply to this scholarship.
  2. Leverages Incentive Grant Program: This scholarship combines both merit and financial need to form an award package between $250 and $7,500, depending on the student.
  3. Workforce Incentive Program: Provides forgivable loans to students attending a degree program in nursing, education, general science, mathematics, physical science, physics, special education and world languages. Students must seek employment in New Hampshire upon graduation in order for their loans to be forgiven.
  4. Scholarships for Orphans and Veterans: Applicants must be children of parents who served and died in World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam, or the Gulf war. Students are eligible to receive up to $2,500 per year to be used towards the costs of tuition. Some students can receive a tuition waiver for certain schools.
  5. Granite State Scholars Program: Granite State Scholars meet certain academic criteria as well as demonstrate financial need.
  6. Medical Education Programs: Students must be New Hampshire residents and be enrolled in a doctoral degree program in allopathic medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, or at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of New England.
  7. Veterinary Education Program: New Hampshire residents pursuing a veterinary medicine degree at Tufts University or Cornell University are eligible to receive $12,000 per year toward their tuition.
  8. Tuition Waivers for Foster Children: New Hampshire residents under the age of 23 who are enrolled full-time at a New Hampshire university or college are eligible to receive this tuition waiver.

Scholarships in New Hampshire Colleges and Universities

Scholarships may also be found at New Hampshire colleges and universities at the financial aid office. These scholarships are based on financial need, merit, sport, special talents, ethnicity, and many more qualities. For example, the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association Scholarship is awarded to students who have a family relative that attended the university.

In addition, more scholarships may be located in cities that have a greater number of colleges. In New Hampshire, these cities are Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Keene, and Portsmouth.

Other Scholarships in New Hampshire

Other ways to receive financial aid in New Hampshire is to look at community organizations offering scholarships to residents. Here is a short list of private scholarships to get you started on your search:

  1. New Hampshire Farm Bureau Scholarships: The bureau offers a different scholarship for each county of New Hampshire.
  2. Hampshire Charitable Foundation: A database of private community scholarships equaling a total of three million dollars per year to hundreds of New Hampshire students.
  3. New Hampshire High Technology Council Scholarship: Children of member company employees are eligible for this scholarship if they are enrolled in a program leading to a certificate or degree in science, technology, engineering or math.
  4. New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association: Provides three scholarships to students enrolled in a degree program that will allow them to pursue a career in hospitality. All scholarships awards are $1,000.
  5. Plan New Hampshire’s Scholarship Program: Students must be in an undergraduate program in a degree program in engineering, environmental studies, land planning or other programs related to the mission of Plan New Hampshire.
  6. New Hampshire Library Association Foundation: Offers three education assistance programs for students interested in library science.
  7. New Hampshire Automotive Education Foundation (NHAEF): Applicants must be pursuing a degree in automotive technology at a community college in New Hampshire.
